1. Excellent property  vocabulary
Kolose 3:16  Hendaklah perkataan Kristus diam dengan segala kekayaannya di antara kamu, sehingga kamu dengan segala hikmat mengajar dan menegur seorang akan yang lain dan sambil menyanyikan mazmur, dan puji-pujian dan nyanyian rohani, kamu mengucap syukur kepada Allah di dalam hatimu.

Check your vocabulary word
Animal, Boast, Curse, Desperate, Empty, F**k, Gossips, Harsh
Hindari kata kata di atas. Karena setiap perkataan kita didengar dan diingat orang lain.

Check motivation to speak
Jika motivasi tidak bener maka ada baiknya untuk tidak bicara.

2. Speak at proper time
Amsal 25:11  Perkataan yang diucapkan tepat pada waktunya adalah seperti buah apel emas di pinggan perak.

Cocok sekali waktu penyampaian. Disini kontrol diri menjadi penting.
Efesus 4:29  Janganlah ada perkataan kotor keluar dari mulutmu, tetapi pakailah perkataan yang baik untuk membangun, di mana perlu, supaya mereka yang mendengarnya, beroleh kasih karunia.

Perhatikan kata dimana perlu! Tidak semua bisa dikatakan langsung. Harus dikatakan tepat pd waktunya

Berbicaralah ttg firman TUHAN yg tidak pernah lekang oleh waktu pada saat mendidik anak. Semua harus ada dasarnya di firman TUHAN yg hidup.

Permasalahan adalah bagaimana kita bisa membawa Damai, jikalau damai itu tidak pernah ada dihati kita? Dan hal ini-lah yang menimbulkan pertanyaan besar, bukankah janji Allah melalui malaikat kepada umat manusia pada malam natal adalah Damai Sejahtera di bumi? Dan jikalau janjinya adalah damai, maka dimanakah damai sejati itu?

Kehilangan Damai sejati mengakibatkan banyak dari umat Kristen mulai meninggalkan ibadahnya, kemudian menjadi jemaat NAPAS (datang hanya pada saat Natal dan Paskah). Hal ini merupakan cerminan dari kerinduan mereka, karena kehilangan damai di hati selama bertahun-tahun, untuk mencari “damai” itu di malam natal! Tetapi seringkali kita gagal, seakan-akan kita salah mengerti akan apa itu damai yang sejati.

Materi ini sekali lagi ingin mengupas kebenaran tentang natal, dan bahaya si iblis dalam memanipulasi kebenaran untuk menghasilkan kedamaian yang palsu. Kedamaian sejati hanyalah melalui Kristus, tetapi tidak berhenti hanya pada keselamatan itu saja, melalui ketaatan dalam keselamatan lah maka kedamaian sejati itu akan bertumbuh didalam hati kita. Buku sebagai penerang pikiran

Sedih banget saat tahu ada gereja yg sengaja menutup perpustakaannya. Padahal gedungnya megah dan memiliki banyak ruang, dikarenakan berbagai alasan sehingga diputuskan seluruh koleksinya dihibahkan kepada pihak lain. Alasan utama adalah karena tidak ada yang mau mengurus Perpustakaan itu sehingga menjadi berantakan, lagian jemaat juga tidak tertarik membaca, sehingga tidak ada yang mengunjungi perpustakaan itu.

Saat berdiskusi lebih lanjut, sang gembala mengatakan bahwa keengganan jemaat untuk membaca karena jemaat lebih suka “nonton” daripada membaca buku rohani sehingga tidak perlulah ada perpustakaan, lagian buku-buku yang dalam dan ribet itu hanya untuk segilintir orang pinter saja yang “gemar” membaca.

Saat saya tahu itu alasannya, saya hanya menengok dan terdiam! Sampe bingung, apakah itu berarti bahwa gereja itu hanya utk *maaf* orang-orang bodoh yg tidak suka baca buku rohani? Yah, untuk orang *maaf lagi* bodoh, kalau kita mau nurutin retorika sang gembala. Coba simak :

Alasan perpustakaan ditutup = tidak ada pengurus = jemaat tidak suka membaca = membaca hanya untuk orang pinter

jadi kalo saya simpulkan, berarti :

Alasan perpusakaan ditutup =  karena jemaat bodoh (jemaat tidak suka membaca karena membaca hanya untuk orang pinter).

Waduh? Bagaimana ini? siapa yang mau dibilang “bodoh”?

Mari kita coba pakai ilustrasi yang lain, bayangkan jikalau kita memiliki anak, dan karena anak kita  ”malas” untuk membaca, maka kita sebagai orang tua berkata ya, sudah lah karena anak saya bilang dia malas maka kita kasih saja “tontonan” ringan melulu. Saat ditanya kenapa anaknya tidak bisa baca buku sendiri, lalu kita sebagai orang tua bilang oh membaca itu mah buat orang-orang pinter saja! Kok terasa “janggal” yah? Bukankah adalah tugas orangtua untuk mendidik anaknya supaya mandiri! Memotivasi mereka serta memberikan prasarana yang cukup kepada anak mereka untuk mau belajar membaca.

Dan juga adalah tugas gembala, majelis dan pengurus gereja untuk mendidik, memotivasi serta menyediakan Prasarana bagi  jemaat untuk bertumbuh. Salah satunya adalah melalui membaca! Mengapa membaca ? Karena membaca dapat mendorong jemaat untuk mengalami pertumbuhan rohani yang mandiri. Kita juga harus mengakui kebesaran tulisan dari orang-orang yang hidup berbeda jaman dengan kita, namun memiliki pemikiran yang tajam. Melalui tulisan Johannes Calvin, Kierkegaard, Leo Tolstoy, John Owen, Jerry Bridges, CS Lewis, Philip Yancey, dan Rick Warren, kita dapat belajar pergumulan mereka dalam mengenal TUHAN. Saya jadi teringat salah satu pengkhotbah yang mengatakan dari sekian banyak tulisan / kata yang kita baca setiap harinya, dari mulai koran, blog, tulisan di gedung-gedung, label makanan dan banyak hal lainnya. Adakah kita menyisipi dengan bacaan lain yang bermutu yang membahas secara dalam kedalaman Firman TUHAN (kalau Firman TUHAN sendiri sudah pastilah harus dibaca yah!).

Melalui tulisan pulalah maka jaman dibagi menjadi jaman prasejarah dan jaman sejarah, nah sekarang dengan meniadakan perpustakaan sebagai penunjang dan sarana untuk membaca buku bukankah mengembalikan kita ke jaman prasejarah. Sehingga alasan mengapa ditiadakan perpustakaan hanya karena  jemaat malas, menjadi sebuah alasan klise! Mungkin yang lebih tepat daripada menunjuk bahwa Jemaat malas membaca adalah karena GEREJA MALAS UNTUK MENDIDIK JEMAATNYA UNTUK MEMBACA.  Yuks kita coba lihat perikop dibawah ini  :

Lalu datanglah firman TUHAN kepadaku: “Hai anak manusia, bernubuatlah melawan gembala-gembala Israel, bernubuatlah dan katakanlah kepada mereka, kepada gembala-gembala itu: Beginilah firman Tuhan ALLAH: Celakalah gembala-gembala Israel, yang menggembalakan dirinya sendiri! Bukankah domba-domba yang seharusnya digembalakan oleh gembala-gembala itu? Kamu menikmati susunya, dari bulunya kamu buat pakaian, yang gemuk kamu sembelih, tetapi domba-domba itu sendiri tidak kamu gembalakan. Yang lemah tidak kamu kuatkan, yang sakit tidak kamu obati, yang luka tidak kamu balut, yang tersesat tidak kamu bawa pulang, yang hilang tidak kamu cari, melainkan kamu injak-injak mereka dengan kekerasan dan kekejaman.

Bukanlah tujuan saya, untuk mengutip ayat diatas dan menunjuk bahwa gereja (red. yang menutup perpustakannya) tersebut sebagai gereja yang tidak menggembalakan dombanya . Saya hanya ingin mengambil ayat ini Yehezkiel 34:4, “Yang lemah tidak kamu kuatkan,” Mengapa perlu agar “domba” yang lemah dikuatkan! Beberapa illustrasi yang saya dapat mengatakan, jikalau ada domba yang sedang patah tulang atau lemah maka yang gembala lakukan adalah menggendong dia dan menyuapi makanan kepada domba tersebut dengan harapan ketika domba itu kuat, maka domba tersebut BISA MANDIRI untuk mencari makan sendiri! Dan salah satu penguatan itu selain Kelompok Kecil adalah melalui menggerakan jemaat untuk membaca buku bukan?

Dalam pembicaraan itu, seorang pembina sekolah minggu menimpali bahwa Perpustakaan Sekolah Minggu tetap ada lho. Wah, Untung Sekolah Minggu digereja tersebut tetap mempertahankan perpustakaan mereka, namun hal ini menjadi lebih ironi lagi, karena (jika mengikuti retorika sang gembala) bahwasanya anak-anak Sekolah Minggu itu jauh lebih “pintar” daripada Jemaat dewasa pada umumnya yang  ”MALAS” baca buku (karena baca buku hanya untuk orang-orang pintar saja) sehingga perpustakaan mereka ditutup.

Akhirnya saya harus menutup kicauan saya yang meracau ini mengenai  #marimembaca, terutama saat sang gembala berkata, “wah, kalau kamu terbeban mengapa tidak kamu rintis saja disini?”. “Eh koq malah saya?” langsung saya ambil sikap mau lari langkah seribu dari sana selain karena tahu merintis itu susah juga karena memang lebih enak jadi “pengkritik” daripada “pekerja”.

Omong-omong kalau ada suka baca buku dan ternyata juga bergereja yang sama, yuks kita diskusi mengenai tulisan ini. Siapa tahu kita bisa melakukan sesuatu yang berbeda? Secara tulisan ini cuma ditulis dari orang luar yang mulai merasa nyaman disana, dan ingin agar tempat tinggal sementara ini bisa menjadi tempat tinggal yang indah yang tidak hanya disibukkan dengan kegiatan rohani belaka tetapi disibukkan dengan kerinduan mencari pertumbuhan rohani yang mandiri dan berkesinambungan.

Sebuah buku yang sangat baik yang menggambarkan bagaimana seorang Kristen harus bertindak dalam mengalahkan keinginan daging. Seringkali yang muncul dalam pemikiran kita adalah keinginan-keingan daging, berulang kali Alkitab menyebutkan apakah itu keinginan daging (Gal 5:19-21), sebaliknya buah dari Roh adalah kasih, sukacita, damai sejahtera, kesabaran, kemurahan, kebaikan, kesetiaan, kelemahlembutan, penguasaan diri. Dan satu-satunya cara mengalahkan keinginan daging dan hidup dalam ROH (tentunya di dalam anugrah keselamatan Kristus) adalah dengan menghidupi hidup yang memiliki pola pikir rohani.
Gal 5:16 “Maksudku ialah: hiduplah oleh Roh, maka kamu tidak akan menuruti keinginan daging.”

Perbuatan daging telah nyata, yaitu: percabulan, kecemaran, hawa nafsu, penyembahan berhala, sihir, perseteruan, perselisihan, iri hati, amarah, kepentingan diri sendiri, percideraan, roh pemecah, kedengkian, kemabukan, pesta pora dan sebagainya. Terhadap semuanya itu kuperingatkan kamu–seperti yang telah kubuat dahulu–bahwa barangsiapa melakukan hal-hal yang demikian, ia tidak akan mendapat bagian dalam Kerajaan Allah. Tetapi buah Roh ialah: kasih, sukacita, damai sejahtera, kesabaran, kemurahan, kebaikan, kesetiaan, kelemahlembutan, penguasaan diri. Tidak ada hukum yang menentang hal-hal itu.

“Selain menjanjikan pengampunan dosa bagi orang percaya, Injil juga menjanjikan damai sejahtera, sukacita, kekuatan rohani, jaminan, dan pengharapan. Akan tetapi, banyak orang Kristen yang dalam kehidupan rohaninya hanya memperoleh pengampunan dosa semata. Mereka adalah orang-orang bodoh yang merasa puas hanya dengan yang sedikit, sementara ada begitu banyak hal yang dapat diperoleh.”

This material is prepared for PMKA UI , I was invited to share about Life Management. Talking about life management, it reminds me on one broadcast show in television about financial planning. The show told us a story of a young man who involved in credit card debt which lead him to destruction because of his night lifestyle and consumerism and how he found a way out of the crisis which lead him to recovery in his family and in his financial. I am wondering if that guy has just met God? for sure it didn’t since this is not a religion program, it’s a financial planning program who show how they can save other life or family through financial planning.

The bible also said, “… if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?”. In my preparation,  At least I find there are 4 reasons, why Life Management is important! bear with me, I want to  share the reasons why. Life Management is important….

1. Because life has a purpose
   

   Everything that has a purpose must have a beginning. That’s why scientists try to figure out the beginning of universe. For example by analyzing the residual of meteor, they try to search for the reasons of life. And neither is when you open a new gadget, you will try to find the user manual, the how and why the gadget is created. By knowing the existence then you know how to manage it better. That’s why our Bible is start by the Genesis, the beginning of all creation, it’s written that everything is created to glorify God, For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever! Amen.
   

   But more for human being, the bible written that mankind are created Not only to glorify God but also to have a relationship with God. That’s God purposes of mankind creation, and to fulfill the purposes God give mankind 2 mandates, Cultural Mandate and Gospel Mandate, It’s written that God blessed them (mankind). And God said to them, be fruitful, and multiply and fill the earth, and subdue it.(Yes, it’s Gospel Mandate, to fulfil Earth with the image of GOD until sin damage the image of GOD and bring to total depravity, and only through Christ then our image of GOD is restored) And have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the heavens, and all animals that move upon the earth. (Cultural Mandate, to work the resources that given by God).
   

   So first of all, before we start to manage our life, understand your Purposes first! Or in the other word set your Goal first! Understanding that our life has purpose and setting goal according to our life purposes is the first things to do when you want to manage your life.

2. Because life has a limitation
   

   Now, Let us focus back on Cultural Mandate, Bible said God ordered mankind to work it and keep it (And Jehovah God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to work it and keep it -Gen 2:15). God want human to work and to keep the Garden that is given to mankind. To Work means to Develop the garden, God want the earthly resources given to human is being developed, being managed to glorify God. Meanwhile “to keep” have a different meaning, In hebrew to keep come from the word shâmar (שׁמר) which means also to preserve (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries).

   To Preserve, to protect and to work, because the Earthly resources God given have the limitation, that’s why God order mankind not only to develop but also to keep them. I understand this as a Management of Resources. Because Resources is limited! Oil resources has its limited, Gold mine could be exhausted, so thus diamond like the one in Pretoria South Africa which left the big holes in the surface of the earth because it’s exhausted. The bible said, “… if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?”

   Well, we might be not having all of that earthly resources but we for sure all of us have TIME, resources that every mankind have, no matter if they are rich or poor, no matter of their race, it’s TIME! We got 24 hours in a day, and it’s the earthly resources God want us to manage.

   In other word Limitation means we need to discipline ourself or in financal word we need to create a budget! Understanding that our life has limitation will help us to manage and discpline the limited resources we had in life with stick to our ultimate purposes, To Glorify GOD.

3. Because life has an expiry date
   

   One old Javanese culture that mirroring the philosophy of life, is the necklace being used by the bride in their marriage. The necklace has 3 levels which mean every person will born, marriage, and die. For centuries, Chinese Emperor looked for the anti aging medicine meanwhile Pharaoh of Egypt were balm in order to avoid decaying. Mankind might be not married, but mankind will surely die which lead to the next level why we need a life management. We should understand any earthly investment we plan in this mortal world, won’t be brought into eternity. Jesus have tell us the parable of rich fool, “Don’t be greedy! Owning a lot of things won’t make your life safe.” So Jesus told them this story: A rich man’s farm produced a big crop, and he said to himself, “What can I do? I don’t have a place large enough to store everything.” Later, he said, “Now I know what I’ll do. I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, where I can store all my grain and other goods. Then I’ll say to myself, ‘You have stored up enough good things to last for years to come. Live it up! Eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.’ “But God said to him, “You fool! Tonight you will die. Then who will get what you have stored up?” “This is what happens to people who store up everything for themselves, but are poor in the sight of God.” Luke 12:15-21 CEV.

   Jesus reminds us one on surely things that living in the sight of God is the most important things. God will not value you at your earthly Investment, anyway earthly riches is his property. But for sure God value you for what you have done in earth. To focus all your Investment on earth for yourself is a wrong and fool motivation of life management. Like the rich fool who think that he can eat, drink and enjoy himself with the earthly riches but being poor in the sight of God. Jesus stretched himself in the cross not to free us to live a life of our own interest, instead as his masterpiece; we are created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared long ago to be our way of life. To live at the sight of God, means also to manage our life for our future Investment. Please remember this, this future Investment is your not a ticket to heaven, For by such grace you have been saved through faith. This does not come from you; it is the gift of God and not the result of works, lest anyone boast. Instead your future Investment means rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. So that you might live in a manner worthy of the Lord and be fully pleasing to him as you bear fruit in every good work and grow in the full knowledge of God.

   Understanding that we not live forever with those earthly resources remind us to focus on our future Investment!
   

4. Because life has an accountability

   Webster dictionary describe accountability as The state of being liable to answer for one’s conduct; liability to give account, and to receive reward or punishment for actions. Understanding that life has an expiry date will bring us in to the next level of why life management. Die will not an end of everything, instead it’s a beginning of eternity, it will started with the judgement, an eternal evaluation of life we lived that will be judged by God. The Bible said on the day of judgment people will give an account for every thoughtless word they utter. Even the time for judgment begin with the household of God.

   One of often story heard by me is about the question of “what will you do if you know that tomorrow is the last day before last judgement!” some people might answer “Oh I will sell half or all of my property and give it to the poor!”, the other might answer that “for sure I will stop my activity and start to pray for myself and for my nations” but a true man answer, “Oh, i will live like yesterday, I will go out of my house in the morning sprinkle on my mango tree although I will never taste the fruit of the mangoes”. The story doesn’t explain that the true man is so ignorant or so plegamatic, instead the story want to tell us that that true man has carefully evaluate his life, day by day, as if tomorrow is the last judgement. He who have no worry because he know that his life is could be accounted since he has given his best, like the faithful servant who work the good work faithfully. So thus our Lord will said unto us, “Wonderful! You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!”

   Because life has accountability, it reminds us to carefully evaluate ourselves! as if the next day is the last judgement

So how we plan our life management, it’s by setting our goal in Him, putting discipline in Him, focusing on our future Investment in Him and evaluating our life in Him. For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Last month, World Food Programme Executive Director Josette Sheeran, expressed her enthusiasm at the WFP Hunger Seminar in London. “You [today’s students] are the generation that will end hunger… In the future we want our grandchildren to ask us what hunger and starvation were.”

With the fact that 20% of the riches who “might” doesn’t really know the feeling of hunger conquered 80% of the earth resources, meanwhile the 80% of the poor and pooerest is fighting for the 20% of the earth resources. Realizing this fact, we need to work hand in hand to overcome the problem. We should be proactively help the poor to get out from their condition.

“Blessed Assurance” is a well-known Christian hymn. The lyrics were written in 1873 by blind hymn writer Fanny J. Crosby to the music written in 1873 by Phoebe P. Knapp.

History

Crosby was visiting her friend Phoebe Knapp as the Knapp home was having a large pipe organ installed. The organ was incomplete so, using the piano, Mrs. Knapp played a new melody she had just composed. “What do you think the tune says?” asked Knapp.

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine”, answered Fanny Crosby.

The hymn appeared in the July 1873 issue of Palmer’s GUIDE TO HOLINESS AND REVIVAL MISCELLANY, a magazine printed by Dr. and Mrs.W.C. Palmer of 14 Bible House, New York City. It appeared on page 36 (the last page) with complete text and piano score, and indicated it had been copyrighted by Crosby that year. It is not certain that this was the first printing of the hymn, but it certainly helped to popularize what was to become one of the most beloved hymns of all time.

Because of Crosby’s lyrics, the tune is now called “Assurance”.

This is a good example to churches and organizations who must eventually replace their leaders. Good leaders prepare their people to function without them by discovering those with leadership potential, providing the training they need, and looking for ways to encourage them.
